Shotgun Sports Facilities

TRAP

ASC has two regulation trap fields and a double trap field. Trap is staffed and open to members and the public Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from April through December.


Trap will also be available to members and the public on our special Friday Night Shoots. See details below.

Trap fields are open to members with keys and their guests on a self-serve basis from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m.  until legal sunset on Sundays, 365 days a year. Members are required to participate in a brief class on the safe operation and loading of the clay target machines and are then given a key to the trap houses. The classes are available on an as-needed basis and coordinated by contacting the shotgun sports staff. All machines must use the club's clay targets.

Accompanied guests must sign the ASC waiver form. Guests who are shooting the fee games (skeet, 5 stand and trap) do not require a wristband.

5-STAND

Our new 5-Stand field opened July 2016 with eight challenging target presentations. From April through December, 5-Stand is staffed and open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4  p.m. Members, guests and the general public are welcome. 5-Stand is also open to members with keys and their guests on a self-serve basis from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m.  until legal sunset on Sundays, 365 days a year.

SKEET

ASC has two regulation skeet fields staffed and open to the public during Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from April through December.

Skeet is also open to members with keys and their guests on a self-serve basis. All machines must use the club's clay targets. SPORTING CLAYS COURSE

ASC features a 10 station, 100-target Sporting Clays course. Special event dates for nonmembers and members are on the downloadable flyer at the bottom of this page. 

Non-member groups of 5 or more may be accommodated by appointment. Send an inquiry to ASC.info.nd@gmail.com.

Members who have an entry gate key and their accompanied guests may shoot Sporting Clays on a self-serve basis. All machines must use the club's clay targets. No special key or instruction is needed for self-service Sporting Clays.

The course hours are 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m. and until legal sunset on Sundays, all year.

Guests shooting the Sporting Clays course must sign the ASC waiver form but do not require a wristband.


MANUAL CLAYS MACHINES AND SHOTGUN PATTERNING BOARD

Manual clays machines and a shotgun patterning board range are available to Members and their accompanied guests only. They are not open for public use. Guests must sign a waiver form and remain under the direct supervision of the Member at all times when using the manual machines and patterning board. These are available from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m. until legal sunset on Sundays, 365 days a year. Members must bring their own targets and there is no fee for members using these areas. Guest fees/wristband are required for all non-members using the manual throwers and patterning board.


2017 Activity Fees Per Round

Game discount cards will be available for sale, cash or check, from on duty staff during open-to-the-public weekends and special events. Eleven (11) game cards for regular, non-event Trap, Skeet or 5-Stand: $45.00 for members, $60.00 for nonmembers. Cards are valid for one year and cannot be used for special events, side events, registration or Sporting Clays. No cash refund value, not redeemable for other activities.

FOR ALL SHOTGUN ACTIVITIES

  • Clays fees for skeet, trap and sporting clays are payable in the appropriate honor boxes unless there is staff present to collect fees.
  • All non-members must complete and sign a waiver form.
  • Shooters must be familiar with and follow all ASC Range Safety Rules.
  • Only target loads, shot sizes 7 1/2, 8 or 9, are permitted for trap, skeet, 5-stand and sporting clays. Both lead and steel shot are allowed.
  • Only two shells may be loaded in a shotgun at any time in the shotgun sports ranges.

NOT SURE HOW TO PLAY THE GAMES? 2017 "How To" Sessions:

Open to members and non-members. Come to the Shotgun Sports Area on these dates. Bring hearing protection, safety glasses, a shotgun and at least two boxes of target load, lead or steel, ammunition in 7 ½, 8 or 9 size shot. Participants pay member rates for the clay targets thrown during the class (Skeet/Trap $5.00 per 25 targets, 5-Stand $6.00 for 25 targets. Staff will show you how the games are played. There is no charge for the instruction. Walk-ins are welcome.

2017 SHOTGUN BASICS CLINIC DATES - Open to All

Shotgun Basics Classes/Clinics are taught by NRA Certified Shotgun Instructors and Range Safety Officers. Classroom will be followed by on-field instruction/coaching. For ASC members the instruction is free, loaner shotguns can be arranged, and clay targets are five dollars per twenty-five. 

The class is open to the public and does not require guest wristbands/passes. Non-members provide their own traditional shotgun (anything with a stock) in 12, 16, 20, or 28 gauge, two or three boxes of ammunition, safety glasses and hearing protection. There is a ten dollar charge to non-members plus five dollars for every 25 rounds of practice targets.

Participants bring: two or three boxes of target load, lead or steel ammunition in shot sizes 7 1/2, 8 or 9; safety glasses and hearing protection. Meet at the club office 7858 Preserve Road, Waterman IL at 9:00 AM on class dates; preregister at ASC.Shotgun.Dept@gmail.com.. FOID cards are not required.*

Children are welcome if they are: mature enough to pay attention and follow safety rules; strong enough to safely operate, hold up and swing a 7-pound shotgun; and accompanied at all times by a parent or grandparent.

Shotgun Basics Clinic: May 6, June 4, July 16, August 5, September 16 and October 7, 2017. Start time for this is 9:00 am. Fees may be paid by cash or check.

2017 SPECIAL SHOTGUN EVENTS - Open to All

Winter Events (January 21, February 25, March 18) Get in your thermal undies, gloves and scarves and come join us for Trap, Skeet and 5-Stand with a chilly chili cook off, a frostbite fiesta, and a bit of cabin-fever crockpot cuisine. Scroll down to download the Winter 2017 Events flyer below.

Sporting Clays Events (June 17, July 22, September 10, and October 28, 2017) The fee of $30.00 per person includes lunch and 100 targets. Participants must bring: shotgun, 100 target-load lead or steel shells (no hunting or defense loads) and eye and ear protection. Start any time between 8:30 am and 12:30 pm. Fees may be paid by cash or check. Prizes will be awarded for high scores.

Spring and Fall "All Clays" events (May 20 and October 14, 2017). Attendees will shoot 1 skeet, 1 trap, and either 1 suprise round or another trap/skeet/5-stand for a total of 100 targets. Fee is $25.00 ($20.00 for juniors) including lunch. Participants must bring: shotgun, 100 target-load lead or steel shells (no hunting or defense loads) and eye and ear protection. Start times are 8:30, 10:30 and 12:30. You must preregister for a start time. Fees may be paid by cash or check. Prizes will be awarded for high scores as well as Lewis Class so there are plenty of opportunities to win.

Friday Night Shoots (June 9, July 14, August 11, September 8, September 22 and October 6, 2017) The $12.00 per person fee includes two rounds of trap or skeet plus pizza and beverage with additional rounds of trap at member rates. Participants must bring: shotgun, at least 50 target load lead or steel shells (no hunting or defense loads) and eye and ear protection. Participants can start any time between 5:00 pm and 7:30. Pizza is at 6:30 pm. Fees may be paid by cash or check.

November Special (November 11, 2017) Check back for more details coming up but this will be a Crazy Quail, Wobble Trap, Drone Shoot or combination event. Still under construction.
