Shotgun Sports

Here's the lineup for the 2019/20 season of Shotgun Sports games at ASC. Please note that some events may be rescheduled due to adverse weather conditions.

Trap, skeet, double trap, wobble trap and 5-stand are staffed and open to members and the public Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 4 pm through January 1, 2020. 

For the 2020 season our Trap, skeet, double trap, wobble trap and 5-stand will be staffed and open to members and the public Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 4 pm from April 11, 2020 through December 27, 2020. 

Sporting Clays will be open to the public (no accompanying member required) on Saturdays from 9 am-2 pm from May 2 through November 22, 2020.

Members with keys and their accompanied guests can shoot the games self service every day during our normal shooting hours.

We will host many family-friendly special shotgun shooting events, games and classes in 2020 that will be open to nonmembers and members.  Scroll down for more information and to download flyers.

Shotgun Sports Facilities

TRAP, DOUBLE TRAP AND WOBBLE TRAP

ASC has two regulation trap fields, a double trap field and a wobble trap field. Trap will be staffed and open to members, guests and the public Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from April 11, 2020 through December 27, 2020.

Trap fields are open to members with trap field keys and their guests on a self-serve basis from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat, and from 8 a.m. until legal sunset on Sundays, all year. Members are required to participate in a brief class on the safe operation and loading of the clay target machines and are then given a key to the trap houses. The classes are available on an as-needed basis and coordinated by contacting the shotgun sports staff. All automatic machines must use the club's clay targets.

Accompanied guests must sign the ASC waiver form. Guests who are shooting the fee games (sporting clays, skeet, 5 stand and trap) do not require a wristband.

5-STAND

Our 5-Stand field features eight challenging target presentations. It is staffed and open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4  p.m from April 11, 2020 through December 27, 2020. Members, guests and the general public are welcome. 5-Stand is also open to members with keys and their guests (no wristband required) on a self-serve basis from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m. until legal sunset on Sundays, all year.

SKEET

SPORTING CLAYS COURSE

For 2020 ASC will feature a 15-station, 100-target Sporting Clays course with multiple shooting positions to accommodate beginner, intermediate and advanced shooters. On Saturdays from May 2, 2020 through November 22, 2020 our Sporting Clays course will be open to the public from 9 am-2 pm. The nonmember cost is $35 for 100 clay targets. Non-member groups of five (5) or more may be accommodated on other days by appointment for an additional fee. Send an inquiry to SpecialPrograms@aurorasc.org.

Members who have an entry gate key may bring guests and shoot Sporting Clays on a self-serve basis every day during normal shooting hours. All machines must use the club's clay targets. No special key or instruction is needed for self-service Sporting Clays.

The course hours are 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m. and until legal sunset on Sundays, all year.

Guests shooting the Sporting Clays course must sign the ASC waiver form but do not require a wristband.


MANUAL CLAYS MACHINES AND SHOTGUN PATTERNING BOARD

Manual clay thrower machines and a shotgun patterning board range are available only to members and their accompanied guests. They are not open for public use. Guests must sign a waiver form and remain under the direct supervision of the member at all times when using the manual machines and patterning board. These are available from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m. until legal sunset on Sundays, all year. Members must bring their own targets and there is no fee for members using these areas. Guest fees/wristband are required for all non-members using the manual throwers and patterning board.

Discounted game cards for eleven (11) shotgun games (Trap, Skeet and 5-Stand) will be for sale, cash or check, from on-duty staff during open-to-the-public weekends and special events. Cards are available for members and nonmembers and are valid for one year. They cannot be used for the Sporting Clays course. No cash refund value, not redeemable for other activities.

FOR ALL SHOTGUN ACTIVITIES

  • Fees for skeet, all trap games, 5-stand and sporting clays are payable in the appropriate honor boxes unless there is staff present to collect fees.
  • Adult nonmembers (18 and older) must complete and sign a waiver form.
  • Shooters must be familiar with and follow ASC Range Safety Rules.
  • Only target loads, shot sizes 7 1/2, 8 or 9, are permitted for trap, skeet, 5-stand, manual throwers and sporting clays. Both lead and steel shot are allowed.
  • Only two shells may be loaded in a shotgun at any time in the shotgun sports ranges.

NOT SURE HOW TO PLAY TRAP, SKEET OR 5-STAND?

These 2020 "How To" Sessions are open to members and nonmembers. Come to the Shotgun Sports Area between 9 am-noon with hearing protection, safety glasses, a shotgun and at least two boxes of target load, lead or steel ammunition in 7 ½, 8 or 9 size shot. Participants pay member rates for the clay targets thrown during the class (Skeet/Trap $5.00 per 25 targets, 5-Stand $6.00 for 25 targets. Staff will show you how the games are played. There is no charge for the instruction. Walk-ins are welcome. So that we can plan better, let us know if you're coming by message to Shotgun@aurorasc.org. 2020 SHOTGUN BASICS CLINICS and INTRO TO SPORTING CLAYS CLINICS

 - Open to All and Offered by our Special Programs Department. Preregistration is required.

Shotgun Basics and Sporting Clays Classes/Clinics are taught by NRA and IDNR Certified Shotgun Instructors and include supervised use of shotgun fields with on-field instruction/coaching. 

ASC Members: instruction is free, loaner shotguns can be arranged, clay targets are five dollars per twenty-five. 

Nonmembers: The class is open to the public and does not require guest wristbands/passes. There is a thirty dollar charge that includes practice targets and the use of safety equipment. There may be additional fees for loaner firearms and/or ammunition.

Participants bring: traditional shotgun (anything with a stock) in 12, 16, 20, or 28 gauge, two or three boxes of target load ammunition (7 1/2, 8 or 9 shot) plus safety glasses and hearing protection. FOID cards are not required.*

Shotgun Basics Clinics for beginners will meet at the office area at 8:30 am: Sunday, May 3; Sunday, July 12; and Saturday, September 12, 2020.

Intro to Sporting Clays Clinics will meet on the Clays Course at 9:30 am: Saturday, May 16; Sunday, June 6 and Sunday, August 2, 2020.

Children are welcome if they are: mature enough to pay attention and follow safety rules; strong enough to safely operate, hold up and swing a 7-pound shotgun; and accompanied at all times by a parent or grandparent.

2020 SPECIAL SHOTGUN EVENTS - Open to All

Winter Special Events: Skeet/Trap/Double Trap/Wobble Trap/5-Stand 10:00am to 3:00pm January 18, February 22 and March 21, 2029. Tame the chill at our warming stations. Enjoy the hot food and drink. Break out the long johns and thumb your nose at Mother Nature with us!

Sporting Clays Events: June 20, July 18, September 19, and October 24, 2020. The fee of $30.00 per person includes lunch and 100 targets. Participants must bring: shotgun, 100 target-load lead or steel shells (no hunting or defense loads) and eye and ear protection. Start any time between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded.

Spring and Fall "All Clays" Events: May 16 and October 17, 2020. Attendees will shoot a combination of games for a total of 100 targets. Fee is $25.00 ($20.00 for juniors) including lunch. Participants must bring: shotgun, 100 target-load lead or steel shells (no hunting or defense loads) and eye and ear protection. Start times are 8:30, 10:30 and 12:30. You must preregister for an assigned start time. Prizes will be awarded for high scores as well as Lewis Class so there are plenty of opportunities to win.

Friday and Saturday Night Shoots: May 29, June 12, July 10, July 25, August 7, August 21, August 29, September 11, September 25, and October 10, 2020 from 5:00pm until 10:00pm. Night Shoot Fee options:

--$25.00 per person includes four rounds of trap, double trap, 5-stand or skeet, plus food and beverage with additional rounds at member/non member rates (best deal for non members/guest). Junior rate is $20.

--$15.00 per person includes two rounds of trap, double trap, 5-stand or skeet, plus food and beverage with additional rounds at member/non member rates. Junior rate is $12

Participants bring: shotgun, at least 100 target load lead or steel shells (no hunting or defense loads) and eye and ear protection. Start any time between 5:00 pm and 7:30. 

Turkey Shoot: November 7, 2019. Win a turkey, ham or other prize based on your shooting skills. (No actual turkeys will be injured during this event.)
