Shotgun Sports

Trap, skeet, and 5-stand are staffed and open to members and the public Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 4 pm through December 31, 2017. 

Next year trap, skeet and 5-stand will be staffed and open to members and the public from April 7, 2018 through January 1, 2019 Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 4 pm. 

Sporting Clays will be open to the public on Saturdays from 9 am-2 pm from May 5 through November 24, 2018.

We also have many family-friendly Special Events and classes scheduled for 2018 open to non-members and members.  Scroll down for more information and to download flyers.

Shotgun Sports Facilities

TRAP

ASC has two regulation trap fields and a double trap field. Trap is staffed and open to members, guests and the public Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from April through December.

Trap fields are open to members with keys and their guests on a self-serve basis from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m.  until legal sunset on Sundays, 365 days a year. Members are required to participate in a brief class on the safe operation and loading of the clay target machines and are then given a key to the trap houses. The classes are available on an as-needed basis and coordinated by contacting the shotgun sports staff. All automatic machines must use the club's clay targets.

Accompanied guests must sign the ASC waiver form. Guests who are shooting the fee games (sporting clays, skeet, 5 stand and trap) do not require a wristband.

5-STAND

Our 5-Stand field features eight challenging target presentations, staffed and open on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 4  p.m. Members, guests and the general public are welcome. 5-Stand is also open to members with keys and their guests (no wristband required) on a self-serve basis from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m.  until legal sunset on Sundays, 365 days a year.

SKEET

SPORTING CLAYS COURSE

ASC features a 12-station, 100-target Sporting Clays course with multiple shooting positions to accommodate beginner, intermediate and advanced shooters. Special event dates for nonmembers and members are on the downloadable flyer at the bottom of this page. On Saturdays from May 5, 2018 through November 24, 2018 our Sporting Clays course will be open to the public from 9 am-2 pm. Non-member groups of five (5) or more may be accommodated on other days by appointment. Send an inquiry to groupevents@aurorasc.org.

Members who have an entry gate key and their accompanied guests may shoot Sporting Clays on a self-serve basis. All machines must use the club's clay targets. No special key or instruction is needed for self-service Sporting Clays.

The course hours are 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m. and until legal sunset on Sundays, all year.

Guests shooting the Sporting Clays course must sign the ASC waiver form but do not require a wristband.


MANUAL CLAYS MACHINES AND SHOTGUN PATTERNING BOARD

Manual clay thrower machines and a shotgun patterning board range are available to Members and their accompanied guests only. They are not open for public use. Guests must sign a waiver form and remain under the direct supervision of the Member at all times when using the manual machines and patterning board. These are available from 8 a.m. to 30 minutes after legal sunset, Mon-Sat and 8 a.m. until legal sunset on Sundays, 365 days a year. Members must bring their own targets and there is no fee for members using these areas. Guest fees/wristband are required for all non-members using the manual throwers and patterning board.

Game discount cards will be available for sale, cash or check, from on-duty staff during open-to-the-public weekends and special events. Eleven (11) game cards for regular, non-event Trap, Skeet or 5-Stand: $45.00 for members, $60.00 for nonmembers. Cards are valid for one year and cannot be used for Sporting Clays. No cash refund value, not redeemable for other activities.

FOR ALL SHOTGUN ACTIVITIES

  • Fees for skeet, trap, 5-stand and sporting clays are payable in the appropriate honor boxes unless there is staff present to collect fees.
  • All non-members must complete and sign a waiver form.
  • Shooters must be familiar with and follow ASC Range Safety Rules.
  • Only target loads, shot sizes 7 1/2, 8 or 9, are permitted for trap, skeet, 5-stand, manual throwers and sporting clays. Both lead and steel shot are allowed.
  • Only two shells may be loaded in a shotgun at any time in the shotgun sports ranges.

NOT SURE HOW TO PLAY TRAP, SKEET OR 5-STAND?

These 2018 "How To" Sessions are open to members and non-members. Come to the Shotgun Sports Area between 9-11:00 am with hearing protection, safety glasses, a shotgun and at least two boxes of target load, lead or steel ammunition in 7 ½, 8 or 9 size shot. Participants pay member rates for the clay targets thrown during the class (Skeet/Trap $5.00 per 25 targets, 5-Stand $6.00 for 25 targets. Staff will show you how the games are played. 2018 SHOTGUN BASICS CLINICS and INTRO TO SPORTING CLAYS CLINICS

 - Open to All and Offered by our Special Programs Department.

Shotgun Basics and Sporting Clays Classes/Clinics are taught by NRA and IDNR Certified Shotgun Instructors and include supervised use of shotgun fields with on-field instruction/coaching. 

ASC Members: instruction is free, loaner shotguns can be arranged, clay targets are five dollars per twenty-five. 

Nonmembers: The class is open to the public and does not require guest wristbands/passes. There is a thirty dollar charge that includes practice targets and the use of safety equipment. There may be additional fees for loaner firearms and/or ammunition.

Participants bring: traditional shotgun (anything with a stock) in 12, 16, 20, or 28 gauge, two or three boxes of target load ammunition (7 1/2, 8 or 9 shot) plus safety glasses and hearing protection. FOID cards are not required.*

Shotgun Basics Clinics for beginners will meet at the office area at 8:30 am: Saturday, April 21; Saturday May 26, Sunday, June 10; Saturday, July 14; Saturday, August 11; Saturday, September 1; and Sunday, October 14, 2018.

Intro to Sporting Clays Clinics will meet on the Clays Course at 8:30 am, 10:30 am and 12:30 pm: Saturday, June 23; Sunday, July 15; Saturday, August 4 and Sunday, September 16, 2018.

Children are welcome if they are: mature enough to pay attention and follow safety rules; strong enough to safely operate, hold up and swing a 7-pound shotgun; and accompanied at all times by a parent or grandparent.

2018 SPECIAL SHOTGUN EVENTS - Open to All

So that we can plan better, let us know if you're coming by sending a message to ShotgunSports@aurorasc.org. Walk-ins are welcome too. All fees are payable in cash or check.

Winter Special Events: Skeet/Trap/Double Trap/5-Stand 10:00am to 3:00pm January 20, February 24 and March 17, 2018. Tame the chill at our warming stations. Enjoy the hot food and drink. Break out the long johns and thumb your nose at Mother Nature with us!

Sporting Clays Events: June 16, July 21, September 15, and October 27, 2018. The fee of $30.00 per person includes lunch and 100 targets. Participants must bring: shotgun, 100 target-load lead or steel shells (no hunting or defense loads) and eye and ear protection. Start any time between 8:30 am and 2:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded.

Spring and Fall "All Clays" Events: May 19 and October 13, 2018. Attendees will shoot a combination of games for a total of 100 targets. Fee is $25.00 ($20.00 for juniors) including lunch. Participants must bring: shotgun, 100 target-load lead or steel shells (no hunting or defense loads) and eye and ear protection. Start times are 8:30, 10:30 and 12:30. You must preregister for an assigned start time. Prizes will be awarded for high scores as well as Lewis Class so there are plenty of opportunities to win.

Friday and Saturday Night Shoots: May 11, June 8, June 22, July 13, July 28, August 10, August 25, September 7, September 21, and October 6, 2018 from 5:00pm until 10:00pm. Night Shoot Fee options:

--$25.00 per person includes four rounds of trap, double trap, 5-stand or skeet, plus food and beverage with additional rounds at member/non member rates (best deal for non members/guest). Junior rate is $20.

--$15.00 per person includes two rounds of trap, double trap, 5-stand or skeet, plus food and beverage with additional rounds at member/non member rates. Junior rate is $12

Participants bring: shotgun, at least 100 target load lead or steel shells (no hunting or defense loads) and eye and ear protection. Start any time between 5:00 pm and 7:30. 

November Special: November 10, 2018. Check back for more details coming up but this will be a Crazy Quail, Wobble Trap, Drone Shoot or combination event. Still under construction.
